Dear Deaf and hard of hearing community friends,
For some years now, advocates have been trying to pass a bill to improve private hearing aid insurance coverage. This year, we have GOOD NEWS! Senate Bill 38 and House Bill 1231 have been filed. These bills have the same language: private hearing aid insurance should cover up to $2500 per ear every three years for ALL AGES. Democratic Senator Silverstein filed SB 38 and Republican Representative Dan Brady filed HB 1231. Bipartisan effort! What is needed now is YOUR HELP to let legislators know they all need to support these two bills! We have to get BOTH passed. Here is a QUICK and EASY way to do this…
Access Living set up an easy action alert system so you can quickly email your Senator and Representative. First, go to: http://www.capwiz.com/accessliving/issues/alert/?alertid=62402516. Scroll to the middle. You will see a form where you fill out your contact info (so your letter goes to the right Senator and Representative). There is also a box where there is a letter to send. You can EDIT this to PERSONALIZE your letters. You don’t have to, but you can. When you are done filling it all out, just hit send. This takes 2 minutes.
Please, please, please do this easy action to let all Illinois state Senators and Representatives know that we still care about this issue and that we are not giving up! Hearing aids cost too much for many adults and children. We have to help! We are just at the beginning of the legislative season (ends in May) but we need lots of action early on to let them know THIS IS IMPORTANT. Will you help? Please tell your friends to send emails too!
Thank you so much.
Amber Smock (proud hearing aid user for 30 years!)
Director of Advocacy, Access Living
PS: Different people across the state are working on this…if you have questions please feel free to email me at asmock@accessliving.org.
