Free ihear Internet Therapy Sessions for children ages 0-3…

ihear Internet Therapy and Early Intervention at St. Joseph Institute for the Deaf has received grant funding to provide free ihear therapy to children who are deaf/hard of hearing, ages 0-3, for up to 14 sessions per child. ihear is an encrypted, HIPAA compliant, listening and spoken language based therapy program over the internet. They have conducted over 3,000 sessions since the program’s inception in 2009 and are currently licensed in 13 states.  The ihear scholarship is available to families in Illinois who do not have access to services.

Moog Center’s Tele-Intervention Project…

The Moog Center for Deaf Education is undertaking a study to determine the effectiveness of tele-intervention for children with hearing loss from birth to age three. They are seeking children with hearing loss, whose families have chosen spoken language as the mode of communication for their child. Weekly services will be provided by the Moog Center staff to families of children who qualify at no cost to the family.

* Cued speech provides families and professionals with a tool for complete and accurate communication with the deaf in English and MANY other spoken languages

* Combines hand “Cues” with the natural mouth movements of speech, providing 100% visual confirmation of every sound being spoken

* Is easy to learn: the average person needs 10-20 hours of instruction and a few weeks to a few months of practice (to develop fluency)

* Enables a deaf child to achieve AGE-APPROPRIATE language and literacy levels, from infancy through high school, college, and beyond.
